West League Update - West 2 - 17th May 2018

It was a massive weekend for West Region Rugby with two of the three championship titles up for grabs.

In West 2, Strathendrick could claim the title at Loch Lomond with a win, though anything less and it would probably go to the last set of games of the season.

It was a gorgeous afternoon at Dillichip, and despite the midweek rain that led to the postponement of Wednesday nights game between Lomond and Millbrae, the pitch was in pretty good nick, though there were still a few soft patches.

West League Update - West 1 - 15th May 2018

It was a massive weekend for West Region Rugby with two of the three Championship titles up for grabs.

In West 1, it could all be settled by the Sunday when Carrick travelled to Allan Glens, but by the same token, a Glens win would take it to the final weekend of the season.

Third place Garnock had a derby game on Saturday, with a short trip to Irvine. A midweek bonus point win at Kilmarnock meant that Garnock needed a further bonus point win in this their final league match of the season if they had any chance of taking the title from Carrick grasp.

Scottish Rugby announce Law Variations Trials for Mini & Youth Rugby

For season 2018/19, Scottish Rugby are to trial a set of law variations for mini and youth rugby.

The trial will form the basis of research into different playing formats which will help to provide building blocks to the 15-a-side game, kicking-off with festivals and triangular fixtures before progressing to knockouts, tournaments and leagues.

Clubs have often noted that one of the issues with player retention is the big jumps between the requirements in different age groups, with challenges noted in moving from mini to youth level (especially regarding pitch size), and then moving up to Under 16 and then Under 18.

West Results (Male) - 9th May 2018

We have a few games in West Region tonight, each of which has an impact in the Championship and relegation battles in West 1 and West 2.

Fixtures9th May 2018

West 1Kilmarnock0v48Garnock
West 2Strathendrick76v0Birkmyre

1) Waterlogged pitch

The bonus point win for Garnock moves them to within 4 points of Carrick, whilst Cambuslangs bonus point win is surely enough for them to maintain their West 1 status.

In West 2, Strathendrick stretch their lead at the top following their big win against Birkmyre, whilst the vagaries of the Scottish weather means Loch Lomond v Millbrae is off due to a waterlogged pitch.
